Meet Angie
I’m Angie Carraway — a fifth-generation Hispanic Texan and a Collin County resident who has lived in Plano, Allen, and Princeton.
My husband and I have been married for 29 years, and we’ve raised four children who continually shaped how I see the world.
For the past 14 years, I’ve worked as a public-school teacher, including in districts like Lovejoy and Princeton ISD.
I grew up in a military family that moved wherever duty called. That experience taught me to be flexible, self-reliant, and grounded in service.
I started working young as a lifeguard and swim instructor on military bases, then worked in hospitality — waiting tables, opening restaurants,
and training others. When my husband and I began raising our family, I spent ten years as a stay-at-home mom and finished my degree during that time.
I earned my BA in sociology with a minor in history from the University of North Texas, later earned my teaching certificate from Collin College,
and returned to school in my fifties for a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction. Those studies deepened how I think about people,
communities, and the systems that shape our everyday lives.
Why I’m Running
I’m running because I believe working families deserve leadership that listens, communicates clearly, and focuses on the needs of the community —
not on distractions. Too many Texans have lost trust in government when decisions feel closed-off and shaped by insiders or culture-war politics
instead of what families are facing day to day.
I want to help restore trust by bringing an educator’s perspective and a community-first mindset to Austin — making sure people feel informed,
respected, and heard, and that our priorities reflect real needs in District 89.
“Serving Working Families & Protecting Public Schools”
What I’m Focused On
Public Education: Safe, Supported Classrooms
As a public school teacher and parent, I believe classrooms should be safe, well-funded, and focused on learning — not political agendas.
Teachers deserve trust and fair pay, and parents should be true partners in their children’s education.
Affordability: Families Shouldn’t Have to Fall Behind
Texas families are doing everything right — working full-time, juggling side hustles, and still falling behind as costs keep rising.
I support practical, transparent solutions that lower everyday costs, rein in middlemen, and make essential services affordable
so families can get ahead, not just scrape by.
Civic Engagement & Trust: Open Decisions, Real Accountability
Democracy works best when people feel informed, respected, and heard. I want to help rebuild trust by pushing for transparency,
responsiveness, and leadership that stays focused on community needs.
