April Angst: Rangers Get Bipolar, Stars Start Slippery, and the Mavs… Just Went Home

By TX3DNews Staff | April 21, 2025

Texas sports fans, grab your rally towels, tissues, and maybe a stress ball. This past week gave us a full buffet of emotions—sweeping wins, shutout losses, playoff slaps, and one basketball team politely escorted out of the postseason with all the grace of a Walmart cart return.

Let’s break it down.

Rangers: Angels Swept, Dodgers Deliver a Dose of Reality

The Rangers came in hot after sweeping the Angels—Kumar Rocker even got his first big league win Thursday with eight Ks over seven innings. Everything was clicking.

Then the Dodgers showed up.

Friday: 3–0 loss. deGrom pitched well, but the offense took the night off.
Saturday: A little life—Adolis García walked it off with a two-run shot. Rangers win 4–3.
Sunday: Back to sleep. Dodgers win it 1–0. Another wasted pitching effort, another blank scoreboard.

They handled the Angels, sure. But against playoff-caliber pitching? Still a long way to go. Good news they won’t face the Dodgers unless is in the Word Series

Stars: A Rough Start to Playoff Hockey

Over on the ice, the Dallas Stars kicked off their Stanley Cup campaign with what some might generously call a “learning opportunity.”

Game 1 against the Colorado Avalanche on April 19 ended in a sobering 5–1 defeat. It was less “fire on ice” and more “cold feet on skates.” The Avs lit up Jake Oettinger early, while Dallas looked like they were still mentally at morning skate.

Coach DeBoer promised adjustments. Fans promised to not throw remotes at the TV—if Game 2 shows signs of life.

To be fair, the Stars have overcome early holes before. But if they want to hang around in May, they’ll need to remember that playoff hockey doesn’t award style points—just bruises and goals.

Mavericks: They Played. We Think.

Ah, the Mavericks. Dallas’s basketball squad entered the NBA Play-In Tournament with big hopes and promptly checked out.

Facing the Memphis Grizzlies on April 18, the Mavs went down 120–106 in a game that was never really close. Despite Anthony Davis dropping 40 points like it was nothing, Dallas couldn’t stop anyone else. Defense? Optional. Rotation? Questionable. Energy? Somewhere in Round Rock.

That loss officially ends the Mavericks’ season—again in the play-in, again with more questions than answers, and again without a playoff series to show for it.

At this point, Mavs fans are eligible for loyalty discounts at group therapy.

Final Word: Texas, This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things

One week. Three major teams. An emotional rollercoaster that shot up with the Rangers, swerved wildly with the Stars, and completely derailed with the Mavericks.

But hey, it’s only April. Baseball’s just getting started, hockey is in the first round, and basketball—well, we’ll always have Luka memes.

Until next week, keep your heads high, your expectations realistic, and your hot takes spicy.
