Collin County Democrats to Host Community Picnic in Plano with Focus on Redistricting, 2026 Elections

Plano, TX (August 1, 2025) — The Collin County Democratic Party (CCDP) will host its annual Summer Community Picnic this Saturday, August 2, from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM at Russell Creek Park Pavilion in Plano (3500 McDermott Rd, Plano, TX 75025).

According to a press release issued by CCDP Chair Jeremy Sutka, the event is free and open to the public. It will feature food, family-friendly activities, and appearances by Democratic candidates and elected officials.

The release states that the picnic serves as both a community engagement opportunity and a platform to discuss redistricting and organizing efforts ahead of the 2026 election cycle.

“This picnic is about more than just burgers and sunshine—it’s a chance to unite against the GOP’s brazen efforts to silence voters through gerrymandering,” Sutka said. “While Republicans try to distort democracy behind closed doors, we’re building a movement in the open, with candidates and neighbors who believe in fair representation for all Texans.”

Confirmed Attendees for the Event

The following Democratic candidates and elected officals are scheduled to attend:

  • Alexander Carpenter, candidate for U.S. Senate

  • Evan Hunt, candidate for Congressional District 3 (attending by proxy)

  • Jordan Wheatley, candidate for Congressional District 3

  • Anthony Bridges, candidate for Congressional District 32

  • Bobby Cole, candidate for Governor

  • Joe Jaworski, candidate for Attorney General

  • Clayton Tucker, candidate for Agriculture Commissioner

  • TJ Peck, candidate for Texas House District 89

Several of these candidates and elected officials are expected to give brief remarks on local and statewide issues.

Topics of Discussion

Speakers will focus on the potential impact of Republican-led redistricting proposals currently under review by the Texas Legislature. The CCDP’s press release characterizes the proposals as a “partisan redistricting scheme” and claims they are designed to reduce electoral competitiveness in Collin County.

In addition to redistricting, attendees will discuss:

  • Democratic organizing strategies for the 2026 election cycle

  • Grassroots voter outreach efforts in Collin County

  • Volunteer and community engagement opportunities

Event Details

The picnic will include:

  • Potluck-style meal — attendees are invited to bring food or beverages and can RSVP through the CCDP’s website.

  • Voter registration stations

  • Family-friendly games and activities

  • Opportunities to meet candidates and learn about upcoming races

The pavilion at Russell Creek Park offers open-air seating and shaded space for attendees. Admission is free, and all ages are welcome.

The Summer Community Picnic is part of the CCDP’s broader initiative to increase local visibility and prepare for the 2026 election cycle, which will include races for federal, state, and local offices.
