Evan Hunt to Kick Off TX-03 Congressional Run with McKinney Launch Event

Evan Hunt’s August 7 event in McKinney will feature live music, community partnerships, and marks the formal start of his campaign for Congress in Texas’s 3rd District.

McKinney, TX — Evan Hunt, a local business leader, 20-year combat veteran, and Democratic candidate for Texas’s 3rd Congressional District, will officially launch his 2026 congressional campaign with a public event in Collin County this Thursday evening.

The campaign kickoff is scheduled for August 7 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at The Sanctuary Music & Events Center, located at 6633 Virginia Parkway, Suite 102 in McKinney. The event will feature live music by Dallas-based artist Reo Casey, along with food and drinks for attendees.

According to a press release issued by the Hunt campaign, the event marks the formal beginning of the candidate’s public and districtwide engagement efforts across the district. According to the campaign’s press release, the event is being conducted in accordance with federal campaign finance regulations, with access levels listed from $0 to $3,500, depending on the attendee’s chosen level of participation.

In addition to campaign activities, the launch event will include a community service component. The campaign has partnered with The Samaritan Inn, a McKinney-based nonprofit that provides shelter and support services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Attendees are encouraged to bring school supplies to contribute to the organization’s back-to-school drive, which benefits children staying at the facility. A representative from The Samaritan Inn is expected to speak briefly at the event about the organization’s programs and mission.

Hunt’s campaign is centered around the slogan “Service Before Self.” The press release describes the campaign’s approach as one that seeks to combine political outreach with community support. “This kickoff isn’t just about politics; it’s about serving my community and making sure every family in the 3rd District has a fair shot,” Hunt stated in the release. “I couldn’t be prouder to support such an incredible organization in my hometown.”

The Samaritan Inn provides a residential program that includes not only temporary shelter, but also long-term resources such as financial literacy training, career development, counseling, and structured case management. According to the campaign, the organization is one of the largest homeless shelters in North Texas.

Kellie Maynard, Chief Development Officer at The Samaritan Inn, also offered a statement through the campaign, saying: “The Samaritan Inn is thankful for supporters like Evan Hunt, who help spread awareness about the homeless. When local leaders step up to highlight our mission, it not only raises awareness—it gives hope to the families working hard to get back on their feet.”

This campaign milestone follows the candidate’s initial financial disclosure, which, according to the press release, reported over $118,000 raised in the first three months. The campaign stated that this amount surpasses totals reported by both his Democratic primary opponent and the incumbent, Rep. Keith Self.

Hunt resides in McKinney with his wife and two teenage children. His background includes more than two decades of service in the U.S. military, including combat deployments. Professionally, he has held leadership roles in the defense and aerospace industries. His educational background includes a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in international relations and conflict resolution from American Military University.

While additional campaign events are expected in the coming weeks, the campaign has not yet released a full public schedule. Media access for Thursday’s event is being coordinated through campaign representative Kevin Numerick. According to the release, high-resolution photos and event details will be made available to media outlets unable to attend.
