The Frisco community is reeling after 17-year-old Austin Metcalf, a student at Memorial High School, was fatally stabbed during a track meet on April 2 at David Kuykendall Stadium.
According to police and multiple news reports, the incident occurred during an altercation between Metcalf and another student, 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony from Centennial High School. The situation escalated, and Metcalf was stabbed in the chest. Despite efforts by first responders—including CPR and an emergency blood transfusion—he was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital (Express News).
Metcalf was a standout athlete, serving as a linebacker on Memorial’s football team and had recently been named team MVP. He maintained a 4.0 GPA and had dreams of playing college football. His twin brother, Hunter, was present at the time and reportedly tried to help save him (MySanAntonio).
The suspect, Karmelo Anthony, was arrested at the scene and has been charged with first-degree murder. He is currently being held without bond (ABC 7 Chicago).
A candlelight vigil is being planned to honor Metcalf’s memory, as friends, family, and classmates continue to share their grief and tributes online (Dallas Morning News).
