Evan Hunt Joins Statewide Democratic Coalition Seeking to Expand the Texas Map

Can Democrats expand the political map in Texas?

A coalition of seven Democratic congressional nominees, including TX-03 candidate Evan Hunt, believes they can.

The candidates are joining together through Take BAC Congress (Balance and Accountability to Constituents), a coalition built around political reform issues such as congressional term limits, banning stock trading by members of Congress and overturning Citizens United.

The coalition argues that Republican-held congressional districts across Texas are more competitive than many political observers believe and that Democrats should compete beyond traditional battleground seats.

Seven Candidates, One Coalition

The coalition includes Hunt in TX-03, Jason Pearce in TX-04, Chelsey Hockett in TX-05, Claire Reynolds in TX-11, Steven Shook in TX-26, Justin Early in TX-31 and Dan Barrios in TX-32.

According to the coalition, the mission is to flip key seats across Texas and build a stronger statewide campaign network. Its platform centers on congressional term limits, banning stock trading by members of Congress and overturning Citizens United.

In a statement announcing the effort, Hunt said the goal is to build campaigns capable of competing across Texas.

“Texas is ready for a change — and this coalition proves it. Seven candidates, seven districts, one mission — put Congress back to work for working people. Every dollar raised here goes directly toward building the campaigns that will flip these seats and send a new generation of service-driven leaders to Washington. We are not waiting for someone else to flip Texas. We are doing it ourselves.”

Building a Statewide Campaign Network

When asked how participating campaigns would benefit from the event, Hunt campaign manager Kevin Numerick pointed to the coalition’s revenue-sharing arrangement.

“The proceeds are split evenly between campaigns,” Numerick said.

Numerick also stated that organizers view the event as part of a larger effort to increase attention and resources for Democratic candidates across Texas.

“There isn’t a fixed dollar target for this event. The goal is broader than a single number — we’re raising both immediate resources and long-term attention for these districts. Beyond direct fundraising, this event is about building sustained visibility and competitive infrastructure across Texas so we can compete in November and beyond.”

The event is scheduled for June 20 at the Marriott AC Hotel Washington DC Downtown and tickets are available through ActBlue.

Are More Texas Districts In Play?

The coalition’s central argument is that Democrats should compete beyond traditional battleground districts.

That includes TX-03 and six other Republican-held congressional seats.

Asked which races coalition members view as the most competitive, Hunt campaign manager Kevin Numerick said the group believes more districts are in play than many political observers assume.

“Given the disastrous policies coming out of Washington under these incumbents, we believe every one of these seats is more in play than conventional wisdom suggests.”

Numerick added:

“To flip Texas, we have to compete everywhere — not just in the districts that look competitive on paper. That’s exactly why this coalition includes seven different districts across the state.”

A Shared Reform Message

Beyond fundraising, coalition organizers say members are already coordinating around a common set of political reform issues.

According to Numerick, that effort is intended to provide a consistent message across all seven districts.

“Coordinated messaging against corruption is already underway. We’ve found that the reform agenda — term limits, banning stock trading, overturning Citizens United — has broad support across party lines, and that gives us a unified message we can carry together in every one of these districts.”

Those issues have also become central themes of Hunt’s campaign in TX-03.

When asked which proposal has generated the strongest response from voters, Numerick pointed to term limits.

“If I had to single one out, term limits probably get the strongest reaction — voters are tired of career politicians who treat Congress as a lifetime appointment.”

Numerick said the issues are connected.

“Whether it’s term limits, banning stock trading, or overturning Citizens United, that’s the same fight.”

The Challenge Ahead

The coalition faces a difficult political landscape. All seven districts represented by the group are currently held by Republicans, including TX-03, where Congressman Keith Self is seeking reelection.

TX-03’s boundaries changed following the 2025 redistricting process and now include several rural counties east of Collin County. The revised district is generally viewed as more favorable to Republicans than its previous configuration, making it a challenging target for Democrats despite recent population growth and changing demographics in Collin County.

  1. My address was gerrymandered into CD #4 but that candidate has not reached out. Is there hope?
We already have term limits with CD two-year terms.
